Shards of Light in His Hands –Turkish Painting Goes to Paris, the new exhibition by Antalya Culture and Arts, will open on October 14.

The exhibition by Antalya Culture and Arts brings together 8 leading artists of Turkish painting.

Entitled Shards of Light in His Hands –Turkish Painting Goes to Paris presents to the art audience in Antalya a total of 54 paintings by Fikret Mualla, Abidin Dino, Avni Arbaş, Nejad Melih Devrim, Mübin Orhon, Selim Turan, Albert Bitran, and Hakkı Anlı, all of whom lived in Paris between 1945 and 1960 in order to be part of the international art scene.

After Paris once again became the art and culture center of Europe in the wake of the Second World War, many renowned artists and writers moved there, and the multinational liberal and intellectual milieu they created provided a fertile ground for new movements. Getting wind of this development, a group of Turkish artists went to Paris to breathe in this liberating air, form new friendships, and by mixing their Eastern background with Western techniques they produced new works and held exhibitions. Shards of Light in His Hands –Turkish Painting Goes to Paris presents the artistic output of eight of these painters and brings the most important figurative and abstract artists of Turkish painting to Antalya.

Curated by Haldun Dostoğlu under the coordination of Pera Museum, the works in this exhibition were brought together from eight separate private collections and will be shown in Antalya for the first time.

The exhibition will remain open between October 17, 2017 and March 4, 2018 and can be visited every day except Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
